The Power of One: How Laxmi's Determination is Making a Difference for Street Animals

From the time she was a little girl, Laxmi had a special love for animals. Her compassion for them led her to actively seek ways to help them during the devastating floods of 2005 in Mumbai, Maharashtra. That's when she first encountered Sherkhan, a dog who had taken refuge in her building during the floods. Laxmi provided him with food and medical treatment whenever she could, and from that moment on, her passion for animal welfare only grew.

Over the years, Laxmi has rescued and cared for countless animals, including cats, dogs, birds, lizards, and snakes. She has kept water bowls in various locations and feeds around 40 dogs and 70 cats every day. Laxmi has even successfully homed more than 50 animals, thanks in part to social media and adoption groups. But Laxmi's work has not been without its challenges. Dealing with humans has been the most difficult aspect of her efforts. Many people have shown intolerance and cruelty towards the animals she cares for, making it challenging to provide for them. Despite this, Laxmi remains resolute in her mission to help animals in need.

One of the most important things Laxmi stresses is the need for sterilization to control the animal population and reduce conflicts between humans and animals. She also encourages people to start small by keeping water bowls and feeding the animals in their area.

"Even small efforts can make a big difference!", she insists.

While Laxmi has seen some positive changes in recent years, she knows there is still a long way to go. The weak animal cruelty laws in India make it difficult to protect these innocent creatures. However, Laxmi believes that every little bit helps, and she encourages others to donate, volunteer, and foster animals to help make a difference in their communities.

Through her tireless efforts and unwavering courage, Laxmi has shown that one person can make a difference in the world. She has given a voice to those who cannot speak for themselves and inspired others to join her in the fight for animal welfare.

Laxmi is a Chartered Accountant but doesn't practice the profession regularly; she is employed in her family's printing business.

Gardening and reading are two of Laxmi's hobbies, with her second passion is being a full-time plant mom.
